Back from Japan - Pine Floors are in! 19 September 2009

I got back from one week in Japan Friday Night. Saturday morning Ellen and I went out to the house to sweep floors of all the lovebugs, dust, etc. This took about two hours. While we were there Joe's framing/carpentry crew arrived to finish the deck of the Screen Porch area. The existing Trex did not look long enough so the the crew supervisor tried to contact our builder but couldn't make contact. With nothing else to do the deck crew left.

While I was gone, the antique pine flooring was installed. Almost all of the tile flooring has now been installed with one of the master bathroom closets and the entryway yet to be finished. The shower tile work is all done as is the the guest bathroom tub surround.

Also the exterior doors have been installed (except for the master bedroom doors to the screen porch) and painted. The side railing and the main stairways are now being put in place. Next week should see the electrician installing lighting fixtures, etc.

  1. Did you have to make specal modifications for building in a hurricane zone? Like more joist and framing bracing? Stronger windows? We're going to build Tideland Haven south of Tallahassee in about two years and are trying to get a handle on the cost to build and what we may need to add to the per sq ft cost for hurricane zone building standards.

    Thanks for any advice!

  2. John,
We are also building Tideland Haven in south Alabama. We started building in late June. This blog is so great for us! We modified the plan some but for the most part it is basically the same! Our land is sloped so we added a basement. Could you please send me your email address. I would love to ask you about doors, windows, fireplace, etc. Thanks in advance!
